controlled with medication prescribed to you by Dr. Behmand. Although
everyone heals at different rates, you can expect that your recovery will
follow this general time line:
The first week:
♦ You will begin to move about more comfortably.
♦ Surgical drains will be removed and dressings will be changed.
♦ You will require help for daily chores around the house.
♦ You will be asked to avoid driving during the first week.
♦ You should avoid staying in bed for long periods of time. Some non-
strenuous physical activity, such as walking in the house, is encouraged.
The first month:
♦ Bruising, swelling and normal periodic discomfort will diminish.
♦ Sensation withing the nipple and areola will gradually improve.
♦ You may start driving, if you are not taking narcotic pain medication.
♦ If you have a non-physical job, you may return to work after the first week.
♦ You may start some mild exercises, such as walking.
After the first month:
♦ You can discontinue wearing a support bra.
♦ You may return to most of your normal activities, including exercise.
♦ Your breasts will start to settle into a more natural shape.
♦ If you have not felt it sooner, you will notice relief from neck, upper back,
and shoulder pain.
♦ Incision lines will begin to fade, although in many patients, the incisions
may stay red for up to a year.
Follow-up visits with Dr. Behmand:
♦ Immediately after surgery, you will be seen frequently in our office.
♦ After the initial few weeks, you will be seen at one, three, six and twelve
months after surgery. It is important to keep these appointments so that Dr.
Behmand can access your long-term results and address any questions or
concerns you may have.
