Facelift
(Rhytidectomy)
You facelift may be performed in a hospital or outpatient
surgery center.  If you are admitted to the hospital for
observation following surgery, your stay will be a short one;
generally only overnight.  Medications are administered to
keep you comfortable during the surgical procedure.  The
most likely choice of anesthesia will be the use of
intravenous sedation with local anesthesia for your facelift.
However, for some patients, general anesthesia may be the
best choice.  Your physical status will be monitored
throughout the surgery and during your recovery.

When surgery is complete, you will be taken into the
recovery area.  Often there are minimal bandages after a
facelift.  However, if you had other concurrent procedures,
such as skin laser resurfacing or eyelid surgery, appropriate
dressings will have been applied. Small drainage tubes are
placed beneath the skin to drain away fluids that might
otherwise accumulate.  Discomfort is usually minimal, but
any pain you feel can be controlled with medication
prescribed for you.
