natural folds or contour lines of the skin so that they are inconspicuous.
Then a slim, hollow tube, called a cannula, is placed through the incision
so that its tip penetrates the underlying fat. After the cannula is
connected by flexible tubing to a suction pump, the cannula is moved
back and forth through the fat, which is vacuumed into the tube.
There are several variations to the basic liposuction technique. The fat
removal technique that best fits your needs depends on a number of
individual factors which Dr. Behmand will discuss with you. The
following techniques may be used during your liposuction procedure:
♦ Tumescent technique, in which the fatty tissue is pre-injected with a
salt water solution containing small amounts of adrenaline and local
anesthetic. This technique is always used by Dr. Behmand when
performing liposuction in larger areas and serves to decrease blood loss,
improve quantity of fat suctioned, and improve your comfort during
and after the procedure.
♦Ultrasound-assisted liposuction or UAL, a two step technique that
uses the energy from sound waves to liquefy the fat before it is
suctioned. This technique is most useful in highly fibrous fatty areas such
as the upper abdomen, enlarged male breasts and the lateral thigh/hip
areas.
♦Syringe suction, may be used to provide the vacuum instead of a
suction pump. This technique provides more accuracy in delicate areas
where fine contouring is essential.
