Neck & Chin
Liposuction
What Are The
Alternative Options?
There are alternative options for improving neck contour.  These solutions
are listed below.  If you have:

♦Minimal excess skin/fat under the chin:
When there is only a small amount of excess skin and fat under the chin, with
relatively good skin elasticity,  radiofrequency treatment with the
Thermage®
system can be very effective in improving neck contour.  This is the only non-
surgical option which has shown to have a discernible positive effect in
patient who are not yet surgical candidates.

♦No excess skin, but a well-defined fat pocket under the chin:
In some cases, the undesired neck fullness can be localized only to the area
under the chin.  This is a true "double chin"  with no involvement of the neck
and areas under the jaws.  Therefore, this area can be addressed directly
through a small incision under the chin, through which the excess fatty tissue
is removed and the muscle beneath the skin is repositioned to the mid line to
achieve the desired contour.  The procedure, called submental lipectomy,
may also be used in combination with limited liposuction in the area to
achieve the optimal contour.

Sagging neck skin & banding of the neck:
If you have excess skin laxity along with some vertical band formations in the
mid portion of you neck as a result of separation of the underlying muscle at
the mid line, as well as some jowl formation, then you may be a better
candidate for neck lift alone or in combination with a
Facelift.  These
procedures remove the excess skin, tighten and reposition the underlying soft
tissue, and repair the separation of the neck muscles, thus restoring the
proper angle of the neck.  Excess fatty tissue beneath the chin is removed at
the same time through a small incision under the chin.

♦Recessed Chin:
A recessed chin contributes significantly to the excess presence of neck soft
tissue, especially in the area beneath the chin.  Improving the chin's bony
support, by way of a genioplasty, can significantly decrease excess soft tissues
of the chin while also creating the needed facial balance.
