between 18-40 years of age. However, older patients with good skin tone may
also be good candidates for the procedure. Liposuction of the neck , in the
appropriately selected patient, can redefine the contour of the mandible,
restore the desired neck/chin angle, and eliminate the overweight appearance
from the neck.
Several factors may contribute to the fullness of the neck & chin, and a poor
definition of the jawline. Weight gain, aging related sagging skin, and poor
chin projection are the most commonly encountered factors. Less commonly,
sagging of the salivary glands below the skin of the jaw may cause neck
fullness. Whatever the cause, these may present in isolation or in
combination. If you have all of the following conditions, you may be a good
candidate for neck/chin liposuction:
♦you have disproportionate fullness of your neck and chin.
♦you have good skin elasticity.
♦you do not have visible "banding" of the neck skin or the underlying muscles.
♦you do not have a recessed chin ( that is, your bony chin is not set too far
back).
If you find that you have excessive skin laxity, banding of the neck, a recessed
chin, or sagging salivary glands below the mandible, then you may be a better
candidate for an alternative surgical procedure. A review of the alternative
