Neck & Chin
Liposuction
How Is Neck & Chin
Liposuction Performed?
Generally, neck liposuction is performed under local anesthesia with
intravenous sedation.  However, some patients may be better candidates for
general anesthesia.

To recontour the neck and the chin area with liposuction, only small and
limited incisions are required.  One small incision is placed behind the lobule
of each ear and one small incision is placed beneath the chin.  Each incision is
approximately one quarter of an inch in length.

A suction cannula, which is a pencil-like instrument with openings at both
ends, is placed through the incisions to access the area beneath the jaw and
chin area.  If necessary, the cannula can also access the area over the jaw
through the same opening.

Attached to the other end of the cannula is a suction pump.  The cannula
contains one or more openings at the tip which then allow fatty tissue to be
suctioned out of the neck area as the cannula is passed back and forth.  Prior
to starting the procedure, the neck is injected with tumescent fluid, which
increases patient comfort and also minimizes bleeding and bruising.

At the conclusion of the procedure, dissolvable stitches are used for closing
the small incisions.  A neck compression garment is applied to prevent fluid
collection and minimize swelling.
