stimulates formation of new collagen, thus improving skin tone
and elasticity over time.
During Thermage ® treatment, collagen is heated to an
elevated temperature. While the top layers of your skin are
protected with a cooling spray, radiofrequency energy heats the
collagen in the deeper layers. Shrinkage of collagen occurs as a
result of heating this protein. In response to collagen shrinkage,
some initial tightening of the skin occurs. Although this initial
change may be perceptible in some patients, visible changes are
generally not expected immediately after the procedure. The
more notable tightening occurs in a delayed fashion from the
body's own healing response to the altered collagen: as new
collagen forms your skin is tightened, producing a more
youthful appearance.
